Hello everyone,
The deadline to apply for the COVID-19 Emergency Support Fund for Heritage
Organizations from the Museums Assistance Program is September 1st. Colleen
Craig from Canadian Heritage has asked me to send along the following
message:
Some may already have applied for this, but for those that haven’t yet,
please do!
This fund is intended to get money out the door to museums, archives &
other heritage organizations to provide support during these exceptional
times.
It is being delivered through the Museums Assistance Program (MAP) which
usually has very narrow eligibility criteria. But this funding is
available for any organization that has a heritage element to its mandate
and cares for a heritage collection (any size) that has some public access
(can be part-time or seasonal) and had a 2019 operating budget of at least
$2,000. First Nations, archives, museum, volunteer-run and seasonal
organizations are all eligible. Even if an organization had to close for
the season, it will still be eligible to receive support if it meets the
criteria.
The application is straightforward, no project proposal or reporting
required, really its mostly inputting basic organizational information.
The amount that you can receive is based on a formula using the 2019
operating expenses. If the organization is eligible, it will receive that
amount. It will be paid out as one lump sum has to be spent on eligible
expenses (basically anything related to usual core museum operating costs +
any additional covid measures) incurred between April 1, 2020 and March 31,
2021.

Anyone is welcome to contact me directly if you have any questions. Next
week I’ll be off, but I have colleagues who will be available to help.
