Art Gallery offers no shortage of things to see and do this Family Day

February 12, 2020 - Kelowna, BC: This Family Day-Monday, February 17, from 10 am to 4 pm-the Kelowna Art Gallery opens its doors to the public for a fun filled day of creative expression and art exploration.

Families are invited to step in out of the cold and create their own custom printed tote bags inspired by botanical imagery and abstract shapes. Regardless of whether you're a seasoned pro or complete newbie to printmaking, the Gallery's helpful staff will be on hand to assist participants with the activity.

"This is an excellent opportunity for families to come and experience the breadth of programming and exhibitions the Kelowna Art Gallery has to offer," says Ryan Trafananko, the Gallery's Public Programming Assistant. "It is also a great way to try out a traditional printmaking press using artist quality materials."

After channeling their inner Warhol or Picasso, families can enjoy complimentary admission to the current exhibitions on view.

One of the shows to explore is Experiment in F# Minor. This sound installation responds directly to visitors' shadows by playing different instrumental and music tracks through a whole bunch of speakers (over 60 of them) that are sitting on top of a large wooden table. Visitors can experiment on their own or team up with a group of friends to add more layers and compose a more complex symphony of sounds.

The Gallery's Art Lab will also be open and will offer an array of art materials to dive into self-directed creative play.

Family Day at the Gallery is completely FREE and open to the public. The Kelowna Art Gallery would like to acknowledge the financial support of the Province of British Columbia for this free community event.
