Today the Vernon Museum and Archives has two objects to offer:

A beautiful old photo album, covered in a faded red velvet with a center piece of embroidered flowers. Inside are pages of black and white photographs of Victorians. Produced in professional studios from across Canada, the photos show men in suits, women in dresses, and mothers with their babies (as far as I can tell all of them are alive, though you never can tell with Victorians). A few of the photographs show delightful early attempts at colorization, with some gentlemen sporting bright red cheeks. Some pages are missing their photos, and the lock on the side has broken off. There is no known history for this object. This album would make a fine addition to any education collection, and the photos alone provide a glimpse into Victorian fashion, and the evolution of photography.

We also have a parasol. The handle is made of wood and carved with crisscrossing lines, while the top is cream with circle patterns and lace trim. There is no known history and the fabric is ripped in places. This is another piece that would be at home in a hands-on or educational collection.

If you are interested in either piece please contact Carolyn.ben at vernonmuseum.ca<mailto:Carolyn.ben at vernonmuseum.ca> within the next seven days. I will be happy to send along photographs. Transportation will be the responsibility of your museum.

Thanks,

Carolyn Ben.
