Today marks the final day of the great Vernon Museum and Archives storage room clean out! Don't despair, we have many more storage rooms so there will be more objects available for transfer in the future. If any of you live in the Vernon area please do stop by to visit the museum and see what we've been up too. For the next little bit we will still have a large collection of objects ready and waiting for new museum homes that you are welcome to look at.
Today we have just a few new objects available for transfer:
Two fold out camp beds, simple wood with canvas strung between. They don't look very comfortable, but then again was the past that comfortable? Otherwise they seem to be in good shape.
A scythe. The handle is made of wood, the blade is one very pointy piece of metal. It has recently been repaired. Works great in an agriculture collection, if your museum lawn is too long, or if you need something to accessorize your black cloak.
Phones. So many phones. The kind a secretary from the age of Mad Men would use, the sort where you would have had to go through an operator to find anyone, phones with rotary dials, and phones with mysterious extra features. It looks like Bell Canada exploded. We have over 20. Let me know what you need and I'll see if we have anything that matches.
In the off chance that some of you are filled with regret for not claiming earlier sewing machines (we still have them) we now have another sewing machine! It's a Singer, with a wood case. I'm told it's the boat-shutter type. It is very pretty, with black enamel and a leaf pattern in gold. (1974.094.001)
Metal butter churn with a spout, the perfect companion for the wooden barrel kind.
Correction: The Wico Electric Co. generator I advertised a few list serves ago is not a generator. It is a portable motor. It's PR Serial No. is 8125 and its patent dates are for 1919-20. It even comes with two flywheels and an outside pulley. It no longer works.
I am happy to send photographs or more information, but as usual, shipping costs will be your museums responsibility, and in some cases there will be an fee for shipping materials. If you are interested please contact: Carolyn.ben at vernonmuseum.ca<mailto:Carolyn.ben at vernonmuseum.ca>
