Hello everyone,
If you have a moment today, I encourage you to reply to the link below and
support Heritage BC's call for heritage infrastructure funding.
All the best,
Ryan
*Ryan Hunt*
Executive Director
Good Morning,
As you know, we have been working hard to raise the profile of heritage in
an attempt to secure a major infrastructure funding program. We believe
heritage conservation can be part of BC’s restart and recovery.
To date, we have assembled a list of 78 shovel-ready projects worth
$185,799,210.
We have also calculated economic impacts and documented other qualitative
and quantitative influences of heritage. Recently, BCMA and Heritage BC
sent a joint letter and report to Premier Horgan and Minister James and we
copied every MLA.
We now need your help. If you haven’t done so already, please complete the
Province’s Restart and Recovery survey and tell the decision-makers about
the importance of heritage conservation in BC. *The survey closes on July
21:* https://feedback.engage.gov.bc.ca/317781?lang=en
The form includes two text boxes in which you can tell the Province about
the benefits of heritage conservation. Here are some suggested ideas:
1. Infrastructure funding for heritage building is a key way to
stimulate local economies: local people are hired; local materials are
purchased; money goes into the community. Job training.
2. Money that goes into the community added to the provincial GDP, and
local and provincial taxes. Local materials are purchased. Significant ROI.
3. Civic pride; investing money in people and communities – where people
live – anchoring communities, investing in what is important to communities
4. Climate action, avoiding landfill, recycling, reusing. Reducing CO2
emissions.
5. Improving accessibility
6. Indigenous cultural heritage
The more the Province hears from the sector, the better our chance of
securing funding for heritage conservation.
Thank you for your help!

As an organization of provincial scope, Heritage BC recognizes that its
members, and the local history and heritage they seek to preserve, occupy
the lands and territories of B.C.’s Indigenous peoples. Heritage BC asks
its members to reflect on the places where they reside and work, and to
respect the diversity of cultures and experiences that form the richness of
our provincial heritage.

Greetings.
Many of you will be familiar with our call out for shovel-ready projects.
The last report sent to the provincial government included 78 projects in
36 electoral districts. The totals:
1. $41,661,210 – conservation, restoration, etc.
2. $144,138,000 – new build
3. $185,799,210 – total value of all project submissions
While I cannot predict the outcome of our efforts to secure infrastructure
funding, I know that we have caught the attention of the decision-makers
and I have been asked to provide supplemental information to strengthen our
case. From my outside perspective, discussions seem to be progressing
quickly and positively.
If you think heritage conservation is important and you want the province
to invest in your community, then we need your help.
I am asking you to complete the province’s ‘recovery ideas’ form and
reinforcing our request for infrastructure funding. This will take 5 to 10
minutes of your time. *THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT*, as the government needs to
receive repeated messages as they look for priorities.
The form contains one or two boxes for you to add information about
shovel-ready projects. Here are some ideas:
The basic premise: investing in heritage conservation will help communities
restart their economies, will employ people, and will bring money to
communities. Select the ideas that resonate with you. Think of your project
and what it means to your community and to the people in your community.
You will find the survey here: https://engage.gov.bc.ca/recoveryideas
The more messaging there is about investing in heritage infrastructure, the
more likely it is we can keep our request moving forward. *Please take the
time to complete the form*.
Many thanks, Paul
