Greetings.

As you know, we continue to deliver information about heritage conservation
projects to the province and recently we sent a letter and report (signed
jointly with BCMA) to Premier Horgan and Minister James, as well as to
every BC MLA.

We are now looking for other types of information to boost our case for
sector support. We hope you will help where possible as there has been no
better time to raise awareness for the heritage sector.

   - Do you perceive a threat to heritage value due to climate change and
extreme weather? This could include fire, floods, draught or increased
precipitation, extreme or changing temperatures, or soil or shore erosion.
We would like to know about the perceived threat and if there are
mitigating measures you would like to put into place.

   - Do you feel the effect of the pandemic will necessitate change either
for your organization and programming or for the sector in general? Because
the shutdown has exposed numerous problems and inequities, there is a
growing sense that we cannot return to ‘business as usual’, but instead we
need to evolve organizations, programming, and sectors. If you feel changed
is needed, we would like to hear from you – even if you do not know what
change looks like or how you will achieve change.

Please email me with your thoughts or, if it is easier to talk over the
phone, please suggest a date and time and we will set a phone appointment.
Either way, I do not need a lot of information so this should not take a
lot of your time.

As with all the information we have collected over the past four months, we
will deliver this new information to the Province as we encourage the
decision-makers to include heritage in the recovery planning. The more
information we are able to collect and deliver to the Province, the better
our chance of reaching our goal.

Best wishes, Paul

As an organization of provincial scope, Heritage BC recognizes that its
members, and the local history and heritage they seek to preserve, occupy
the lands and territories of B.C.’s Indigenous peoples. Heritage BC asks
its members to reflect on the places where they reside and work, and to
respect the diversity of cultures and experiences that form the richness of
our provincial heritage.
