Hello All,
HAMM reopened its doors on June 1. Since we are a smaller museum we are pretty much doing what we normally do with the addition of face shields for most of our staff when visitors are present. We were also fortunate to have the use of our building's main hallway to expand one again our summer exhibit into an outdoor space. We have set a limit of 10 visitors inside the museum main unit.
Since Canada Day was cancelled and there is no parade. We still hadn't financially (or emotionally) recovered from last year's devastating flood when we were hit with the three month closure and a tourist season that may not happen.
So we came up with an all week Mask-arade instead of a Canada Day Parade to give the region something do to that is safe in times of Covid-19 as well as being fun. We'll be open Sunday through Saturday with extended hours past the "work day" plus we will have early hours for elderly or special needs on Canada Day.
All visitors must have their own face coverings to wear with others who are not part of their immediate household are present. Some disposable mask are available at the front desk. We will have hand sanitizers at various parts of the exhibit and museum, especially in our interactive section. Visitors will have to use their hand sanitizer before using the interactive section and repeat once they are finished before moving to the next one.
We'll be handing out flags, posters, and other Canada Day goodies that had already been ordered from Heritage Canada. We will also have a origami crane folding area for our Hiroshima display. (again, with the hand sanitizers).
OH, and our summer exhibit is THEIR FINEST HOUR-Stories of the Second World War.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
the torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
we shall not sleep,
though poppies grow in Flanders Fields.
