Revelstoke Museum & Archives has three openings for summer students,
dependent on funding.
Salary: $15.50/Hourly
Contract Dates: June 8, 2020 - August 29, 2020
Deadline to Apply: Friday, May 1, 2020 at 5:00 pm
Students must qualify under the Young Canada Works eligibility: full-time
returning student between the ages of 15 and 30; must be a Canadian citizen,
permanent resident, or have refugee status.
COLLECTIONS ASSISTANT:
The successful candidate will be responsible for accessioning museum
artifacts, entering data in the collections management program, ensuring the
proper conservation and storage of artifacts, and preparing artifacts for
exhibit. Preference will be given to post-secondary students with an
interest in the fields of museum studies, history, and education. Above
average computer skills are required. Strong verbal and written
communication skills in English are required. Applicants are expected to
study preparatory materials and to take a brief written test indicating
their understanding of museum policies and procedures.
CHILDREN'S PROGRAMMING COORDINATOR:
The successful candidate will be responsible for creating and implementing
programs for children and families, including the annual Heritage Explorers
program for children ages 4 to 7 and the Junior Curators Club program for
children ages 8 to 12. The successful applicant will be required to have a
Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check performed. The job involves the
creation and implementation of programming for children and families at
Revelstoke Museum & Archives through the Heritage Explorers program for
children ages 4 to 7 and the Junior Curators Club program for children ages
8 to 12. The project will also see the creation of activities for families
and children and school-based activities. Preference will be given to
post-secondary students in the fields of education, early childhood
education, history, museum studies or recreation. Intermediate computer
skills are required. Experience in working with children, and in preparing
and running programs, is considered an asset. Applicants are expected to
study preparatory materials and to take a brief written test indicating
their understanding of museum policies and procedures and their ability to
develop programming for children.
MUSEUM ASSISTANT:
The successful candidate will be responsible for museum tasks including
visitor services, intake and accessioning of artifacts, assisting
researchers with information requests, undertaking research for the curator
for exhibition and programming needs, creating print and online exhibit
guides; adding resources to the museum website; greeting and interacting
with visitors, and other related tasks. Preference will be given to
Post-Secondary students in the fields of tourism, marketing, recreation,
museum studies, graphic design or education. Intermediate to advanced
computer skills are required. Strong verbal and written communication skills
in English are required. Graphic design skills are considered an asset.
