Hello everyone,
The Central BC Railway and Forestry Museum has three fire trucks that have
been determined to be off-mandate and are looking for new homes. The cost
of transporting the vehicles would be the burden of the new owner.
The fire trucks have been outside and exposed to the elements for a number
of years now and would need some restoration work. The three trucks are:
*1. American LaFrance Fire truck (2000.38.01)*
*History:* It was built for the Canadian Naval Division on Vancouver Island
during WWII. It was used by the navy until 1955, and then was used by the
Esquimalt fire department until 1959. The truck was then bought by Father
O'Grady for the College Heights fire department from the province. The
truck was called "Fergus" after Father O' Grady. It never was used in
Prince George because they could not get it running. It was donated to
CBCRFM in 1999.
*2. Thibault Fire Truck (2000.37.01)*
*History: *It was built for North Vancouver. It was sold to Upper Fraser
Mills in 1977. The truck's 500-gallon tank was replaced with a 1000-gallon
tank at this time. This fire truck was used by canfor until it was donated
to CBCRFM in 2001.
*3. 1952 GMC Fire Truck (2001.77.01)*
*History: *It was used in Prince George until 1973, where it was used by
the Fraser Lake Fire Department. It was then donated to the CBCRFM in 1993
by the Pontiac Schultz dealership who had acquired it from Fraser Lake.
If you wish to see current pictures of the trucks or have any questions or
inquires about the pieces. Please email Deidre Pratt at dpratt at pgrfm.bc.ca
or call us at 250-563-7351.
Thank you!
