Job Title: Education & Youth Program Coordinator
Report to Curator

Wage: $18 per hour
*Organization Overview*
The O’Keefe Ranch, which was originally founded in 1867, is an interactive
and dynamic life-sized museum with events and activities aimed at educating
the general public and promoting the history and culture of the North
Okanagan. The O’Keefe Ranch is currently operated by a non-profit society,
the O’Keefe Ranch and Interior Heritage Society and it is the Society’
mission to bring ranching and farming heritage to life, create vibrancy for
our communities through interactive activities and events and preserve and
demonstrate the rich ranching and farming heritage of the North Okanagan.
The O’Keefe Ranch firmly believes that an organization is great not by what

*Summary of Position:*
In collaboration with the Curator, the Education & Youth Program
Coordinator plays an important role in the design, delivery and evaluation
of the O’Keefe Ranch’s education & youth programs. During May, June and
September, the Education & Youth Program Coordinator provides leadership in
the marketing, booking and support for the O’Keefe Ranch School Program.
This position is also responsible for designing, organizing, planning and
implementing the O’Keefe Ranch Youth Summer Camps to be held during July
and August. In addition, the Education & Youth Program Coordinator is
responsible for overseeing the delivery of three Pioneer Camps, which are
held in partnership with City of Vernon Parks & Recreation.
*Job Responsibilities:*
*School Program*
· Coordinate school field trip bookings in May, June and September;
· Develop marketing materials and promote the program to School
Districts in the surrounding communities;
· Promote the O’Keefe Ranch school program by actively
participating in outreach initiatives within the community (i.e. community
events, farmer’s market, tradeshows etc.)
· Greet teachers and classes as they arrive;
· Assist with the compilation of program resources (i.e. contact
lists, pedagogical statistics, etc.);
· Assist with the development of new educational and public
programs;
· Act as the team lead and deliver programs to school groups in
conjunction with program staff;
· Mentor student helpers, UBCO Field Experience Co-op student(s);
· Compile statistics and report results after the completion of the
current filed trip cycle (September);
· Research, develop, market and implement a school program for High
School students.
*Youth Summer Camps*
· Research, develop and implement a summer youth camp program to be
offered in July & August;
· Develop marketing materials and promote the youth summer camp
program;
· Oversee the completion and evaluation of the Pioneer Camps.
*Adult Programs*
· In collaboration with the Sales & Fundraising Coordinator,
develop a program strategy focused on the delivery of year-round programs
to the public and adult learners;
· In collaboration with the Finance & Marketing Manager, create
strategic revenue streams by developing new educational and public programs
to be offered year-round.
*Curatorial & Interpretive Program*
· Assist the Heritage Interpreters with guided tours as required;
· Assist in the General Store and Gift Store as required;
· Assist with other tasks as they arise.
*Knowledge, Skills and Abilities*
· Excellent communication skills;
· Innovative, creative, and passionate about sharing stories;
· Ability to research, develop and compile statistical information
and write reports;
· Big picture thinking with the ability to align youth and adult
educational programming with the mission, vision and long-term goals of the
organization;
· Excellent organizational skills, with an ability to prioritize
important projects;
· Experience working with Microsoft Office Applications;
· Team player;
· Sound knowledge of workplace culture.
*Qualifications, Training and Experience:*
· Post-secondary education or training in history, public
programming, art history, or education is an asset;
· Experience in the development and/or delivery of education of
public programs in arts, culture or educational settings;
· Experience with social media marketing would be an asset;
· A background or experience working in a non-profit environment is
a definite asset
*Licences, Certificates & Registrations*
A valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence in the Province of British Columbia
*Additional Information*
This is a seasonal position. Position is full-time (35 hrs/week) with
flexible hours from approximately May 1 – September 30th. Hours of work
during offseason (Approx. October 1 – April 30) are as needed.
The Youth Program Coordinator will receive training from the outgoing
Educational Coordinator, Curator and Events Coordinator and will include
(1) how the field trip program has been conducted in the past and welcome
new innovations (2) the history of O’Keefe Ranch, BC Ranching and how to
deliver guided tours, (3) how to access the Ranch’s archive and artifact
collections for independent research and inspiration.
