FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The VPAG Introduces Online Content As They Close Their Doors to the Public

The Vernon Public Art Gallery has closed their doors to the public until further notice, due to the rising concerns surrounding COVID-19. The gallery will be fully transitioning to an online format, where they will continue to deliver their regular programming, to help ease the stress of isolation at this time. The gallery will be launching their online programming on March 27th, with a virtual art lesson.

March 25, 2020 – Vernon, BC: As always, The Vernon Public Art Gallery wants to ensure the safety of their staff, volunteers and guests. So, they have made the necessary decision to close their doors to the public until further notice. The gallery recognizes that this is a difficult time, so their staff is excited to announce they are working on ways to deliver their regular programming through online platforms.

The VPAG’s Learning and Community Engagement Curator, Kelsie will be live streaming tours of their current SD#22 exhibition, Art from the Heart as well as Bryan Ryley’s exhibition Morning Briefing. The gallery will also be providing virtual art lessons, for those at home needing a creative outlet or simply looking for something to do. Kelsie will walk participants through various art activities that can easily be completed at home with basic art materials on hand. These art lessons are simple and fun to do on your own, or as a family with kids!

“This is a stressful and uncertain time for everyone. In an effort to help ease the situation, the VPAG has decided to continue to provide opportunities for creative thought and practice through online activities to support our community as we practice social distancing. We hope our online tours and activities will help ease stress throughout this lonely and isolated time. We will be introducing additional online programs soon, so check our social media accounts to stay up to date.” Dauna Kennedy, Executuive Director

The VPAG's online programming will be posted on their YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook accounts, as well as on their website. Check out the gallery's social media for more details.

The Vernon Public Art Gallery is a not-for-profit, charitable organization committed to fostering an appreciation of the visual arts for all members of the community. As the oldest art gallery in the Interior Region of British Columbia, the VPAG has been an important part of cultural tourism, and a centre for educational and cultural activities in the Okanagan for 60+ years. The VPAG is constantly growing and is currently looking forward to its exciting transition into its larger facility at the new Cultural Centre in Vernon. We hope to consistently develop and increase our funds to allow us to promote visual arts in the broader community by presenting more quality exhibitions, educational programs and annual community events.
