Hello everyone,

I've just received the following additional information from Canadian
Heritage regarding the new funding announcement this morning:

I hope you are doing well. I wanted to give you the latest on Minister
Guilbeault’s announcement on the rollout of the $500M Emergency Support
Fund for the cultural, heritage, and sport sectors. As I’ve mentioned to
many of you, we’re worked to ensure that there will be support for museums
and other heritage institutions. Here are the key points for museums.

I hope you will share this with your members and help us amplify the news
on your and their social media channels.

· The goal of the Fund is to protect jobs and support business
continuity for organisations whose viability has been negatively affected.
It is designed to complement the other federal government measures in
response to COVID-19
<https://www.canada.ca/en/department-finance/economic-response-plan.html>,
including the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB), the Canada
Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS), the Business Credit Availability Program
(BCAP), and the Canada Emergency Commercial Rent Assistance (CECRA) program.

· The Prime Minister just announced that the wage subsidy program
will be extended beyond June. This may help organisations that did not
qualify for the CEWS to now access the program as we enter the peak season
for visitors. You can apply to the CEWS here
<https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/subsidy/emergency-wage-subsidy.html>
.

· $53 million will be allocated to the heritage sector through the
Museums Assistance Program (MAP).

· We will use a two-phased approach to speed up the distribution of
funds:

o Phase 1 is for funding recipients of arts, culture, and sports programs
that are projecting a significant financial impact as a result of the
pandemic.

o Phase 2 will provide temporary relief to eligible organisations that
have heritage collections through the Emergency Component of the Museums
Assistance Program, and other arts and culture organisations that do not
currently receive funding from Canadian Heritage or another participating
federal agency (Canada Council for the Arts, Canada Media Fund, Telefilm
Canada). Further details on Phase 2 will be announced in the coming weeks.

· Grants ranging from $5,000 up to a maximum of $100,000 may be
awarded to eligible heritage organisations. Amounts will be calculated
based on a sliding scale formula.

· Indigenous and official language minority community organizations
with a heritage collection may also be eligible to apply.

· Zoos, aquaria, public libraries and other organizations that do
not have a heritage collection are not eligible for the emergency funding
component of MAP.

· The eligibility criteria for emergency funding through MAP differ
from those of the regular MAP. This means museums do not need to have the
equivalent of one full-time paid professional staff in order to access our
Emergency Support Program.
