Making your own dress forms can be very worthwhile and not expensive. There is a wonderful way to do it using 2" thick Styrofoam sheets available from a building supply. The forms can easily be custom made to beautifully fit any existing dress or shirt, making the end result on display look like a real person is wearing the item and not having it hang shabbily on a typical Twiggy style commercial store version of a person.
Very simple, cheap and effective. Great for volunteer projects and even for the basically unskilled. We used to include the technique in BC Museum courses. Perhaps it is time to do that again.
That technique seems to not pop up quickly through Google. Instead they show some nice but expensive techniques using exotic expanding foam materials.
Write me if you want information about how to use the Styrofoam sheets cut and layered for a realistic looking clothing form.

Hello,
We are looking to purchase new dress forms for exhibits. Can anyone recommend any suppliers, brands, etc. that you have had good experiences with?
Thank you!
