At museums, I have installed a special shaped wooden moulding “Picture Hanging Rail” mounted high on a wall, and used the special shaped metal hangers that are intended for hanging pictures with Picture Wire from such a rail. It is a great system. Very flexible regarding picture placement, and non-intrusive on the wall surface (no nail holes to patch later). It also added a nice architectural feel of formality to the galleries.
There is a woodworking supply shop in Victoria that sells (when I used them there a few years ago) the rails, and also a wood moulding supply shop in the Lower Mainland.
The metal hangers used to be easy to get from a shop in Victoria, but that shop is now closed. Mr. Google should be able to find some for you.
All the best,

Subject: [BCMA] Picture Hanging System
Hello,
The Revelstoke Railway Museum is looking to install a picture hanging system in our upstairs mezzanine gallery. We are looking for other museums who have installed similar systems who can let us know what company they used or how they did it themselves.
Thank you for your help!
