Hello everyone,
Heritage BC has passed along the following update on advocacy for potential
infrastructure funding for the heritage sector. I encourage you to read the
information below and consider taking steps to prepare if you are
interested in infrastructure funding/support.
Greetings,
Our efforts to include heritage infrastructure projects in the Province’s
recovery planning is still ongoing and the Province continues to
demonstrate interest. I am hopeful the Province will make a final
announcement in the next week or two.
In the meantime, I want to pass along some information that has been shared
by a contact with the Province.
1. Government is beginning to release components of its economic
recovery response to COVID-19 after the engagement over the summer months:
https://engage.gov.bc.ca/recoveryideas/
2. The Province released the current economic plan which signals the
plans for recovery: https://news.gov.bc.ca/releases/2020FIN0051-001698
3. As government readies for rolling out economic recovery plans it
would be advantageous for members to be prepared (for current open programs
as well as any future programs).
4. Most programs historically use application based programs which
require the use of Business BCeIDs.
5. Applicants will need to go through the process of seeking a Business
BCeID prior to being able to apply:
https://www.bceid.ca/register/business/getting_started/getting_started.aspx
*I cannot over stress the importance of 3 and 5. *
Like a number of the emergency programs, the turn-around will probably be
tight, so it would be wise for you to consider the scope of your
infrastructure project and what information you would typically need for a
grant application. Be prepared for quick action.
The fifth point is critical – *if you do not have a BCeID, you may not be
able to apply for funding.* If you do not already have a number, please
apply for a BCeID number today. I understand it typically takes two weeks
for application completion, although I do not know if COVID-19 has slowed
down the process.
I will keep you posted with other updates. Please let me know if you have
questions or you want to discuss your project.
Below is other news I think you will find helpful.
Best regards, Paul
