CHIN is a good resource. Canadian Heritage Information Network
At the Sooke Region Museum, we use PastPerfect as our collections software and it can be local or cloud based.
There are a few versions of collections software that are based on Microsoft Access.

Subject: [BCMA] Covid vs public exhibits
Hello all.
We’ve exhausted our creative brain cells trying to figure out how we can adapt our annual exhibit season in keeping with the Covid guidelines as well as struggling to get visitors (any local person would do) into our museum.
So we are going to use this time to concentrate once and for all on getting our entire inventory into a digital format that is searchable, detailed, and can work with our existing website and our plans for a post covid virtual museum website.
Like the story of the Grasshopper and the Ants, we have been bouncing this idea of getting on the stick with a more accurate system of inventory of artefacts for years. Unfortunately we have a LOT of time on our hands and have received some donation funding to purchase hardware and software to accomplish this.
What type of inventory system do you use or is used mostly in the industry that is both PC and Mac compatible? We already are reluctantly moving some of our basic SOPs, graphic projects, legal documents to the Cloud with a separate external HD back up located off site.
Thanks for any advice for us as we move from paper and pen to paperless record keeping.
At your service,
Lewis Bartholomew
