[BCMA] Query about membership benefits

Hi Melissa,

A few added benefits I would recommend is:
- reciprocal with other institutes.
- giving out a complimentary guest pass when a member renews. This encourages the member to bring a friend, and hopefully that person will sign up. I suppose this action may take away from admission by donation. So that’s choice to weigh.
- Do you have any online events that members can receive early sign up codes?
- Do you have a museum newsletter that they could receive ? This is also a good benefit for any for corporate memberships, as it creates brand awareness.

Depending on your levels and numbers of memberships, you could look into E-Tapestry (higher end) and Microsoft Access (lower end). With the first database you can create fields and run reports. I used this when I was in charge of membership at the Vancouver Maritime Museum. The only thing is.. it can be a bit overwhelming and you need to have a good handle on how to build queries and run reports.

Hi Melissa:
I'm a volunteer at the Old Hastings Mill Store Museum and The Roedde House both in Vancouver.
I do come from a background of 25 yrs experience at the AGO in Toronto.
To extend membership benefits, may I suggest free coatcheck (providing you have a coatrack and Covid ends), guest privileges... this might only apply to "upper level donations/memberships", extended hours for member viewing, and tax receipts for memberships over a certain amount.
Not good on software ideas....so I will pass on that one.

Hello All,



My name is Melissa. I am the new Marketing Coordinator at the White Rock Museum & Archives. This is my first time using this BCMA listserv for a query. Here it goes!



The White Rock Museum & Archives is wanting to make some changes to our membership program. We are looking for ideas on what we can offer our members/patrons as value added benefits for their annual membership contribution. We currently offer a discount on our gift shop non-consignment items, a discount on our White Rock History book “Years of Promise”, invitations to exhibit openings, voting privileges, and the opportunity to be on the Board of Directors. We do not charge admission to our gallery exhibits, and do not plan on doing so. I am wondering what other non-admission museums offer to your members. What has worked? What has not? And as an aside, what software/system do you use to keep track of your current membership data? Any advice you can offer is much appreciated!
