Mugshots: A Page from Vancouver’s Past: 1912-1913
Exhibition dates: December 26, 2020 - July 31, 2021
The Vancouver Police Museum & Archives is pleased to announce the opening of a new exhibition, Mugshots: A Page from Vancouver’s Past: 1912-1913. Examining the photographs of twenty arrested individuals from an early Vancouver City Police mugshot book, the exhibition presents a critical look into the city’s social and cultural history.
Along with the original photographs and records detailing each person’s criminal charge and sentencing, the exhibit includes additional context about Vancouver during this time period to situate these individuals within a detailed historic landscape. From laws, racial tensions and discrimination to fashion and commerce, the mugshots present a complex and storied picture of Vancouver at the beginning of the 20th Century.
About the museum:
The Vancouver Police Museum & Archives is an independent museum run by the Vancouver Police Historical Society, a registered charity. The museum is housed in the former Vancouver Coroner’s Services and the historic City Analyst Laboratory and is a registered city heritage site.
