at the Kelowna Art Gallery get into heated arguments about what the charcoal drawings represent? Some people might see tubular bells, others might see a maze for a lab rat, or a pinball machine. Or maybe we are looking at an interpretation of an engineering
schematic. Don’t worry, you are all right!<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif""><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">This solo show by senior Canadian artist Ron Shuebrook will offer Okanagan audiences the opportunity to view a selection of charcoal drawings that
are actually abstracts. Included will be four new large pieces created specifically for us.
<i>Ron Shuebrook: Drawings </i>will be on view at the Kelowna Art Gallery from March 7 to April 26, 2015.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">Shuebrook’s drawings are rich and tactile and are exciting in their scope and breadth of reference and allusion. His practice spans several decades
and his roots are in mid-twentieth-century modernism. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif""><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">Shuebrook has had a long career in Canada, having first arrived here to live in 1970. In addition to his work in drawing, Shuebrook is an accomplished
abstract painter. He divides his time between Guelph, Ontario, and a summer home and studio in Nova Scotia.

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">This exhibition has been organized by the Thames Art Gallery (Chatham, Ontario) in collaboration with the Kelowna Art Gallery, Macdonald Stewart
Art Centre in Guelph, Ontario, the Mt Saint Vincent University Art Gallery in Halifax, and the Robert McLaughlin Gallery in Oshawa, Ontario. The guest curator for the show is John Kissick, a nationally recognized painter who teaches at the University of Guelph,
in Ontario. The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue with texts by Kissick, and artists David Urban, and Melanie Authier.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
