This project features a large scale reproduction of Ryley's painting and will be displayed on the east side of the parkade building in down town Vernon where the VPAG is currently located. VPAG did a call out to artists and received some excellent submissions from local area artists. Installation of the banners on the exterior of the parkade will take place in the near future.<br> <br> “We are thrilled to be able to facilitate this banner project, thanks to funding from the Vernon BC Winter Games Legacy Fund. This installation will create an exterior gallery space which will provide a visible impact to the parkade wall thanks to the quality submissions we received from area artists. Bryan Ryley, the selected artist for this project, has also provided the original painting that will be recreated on the enlarged banners, to the VPAG to auction off at this year’s Midsummer’s Eve of the Arts. Don’t miss your opportunity to be the winning bidder on this important work of art! The original artwork will be a perfect piece for your office or as a feature piece to your home collection.”<br><br><em><span style='font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif'>–Dauna Kennedy-Grant, VPAG Executive Director</span></em><br> <br>“We are very excited about a high caliber of artwork submitted for consideration for the outdoor banner project. Among the greatest highlights is the painting from Bryan Ryley, a local artist with an extensive exhibition record and a representation by a prestigious commercial gallery in Calgary. Ryley is best known for his Modernist approach to non-objective works of art which garnered him an international recognition in the field of abstract painting.”<br> <br><em><span style='font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif'>–Lubos Culen, VPAG Curator</span></em></span><span style='font-size:11.5pt;font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif;color:#606060'><o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:8.5pt;font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif;color:#606060;background:white'> </span><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman",serif'><o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal style='line-height:16.9pt;background:white'><span style='font-size:8.5pt;font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif;color:#606060'>"Bryan Ryley lives and works in Vernon, B.C, Canada. Throughout his career, Bryan Ryley’s work has moved back and forth among three media – painting, drawing, and collage, with forays into sculpture and photography. In each medium he explores structural systems and serial compositions, developing new voice with each change of material and scale. Ryley’s lyrical tones and richly textured color is reminiscent of a classical modernist abstraction rooted in Cubist collage and Surrealist inspired abstraction. <br><br>Ryley exhibits in both Canada and The United States. His work is found in numerous private and public collections, including: Government of Canada, Canadian Consulate, Paris, France; The Canada Council Art Bank, Ottawa, Ontario; British Columbia Art Collection, Victoria, BC; Kelowna Public Art Gallery, Kelowna, BC; Vernon Public Art Gallery, Vernon, BC; Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, New York; Racine Art Museum, Racine, Wisconsin; and numerous corporate collections including Canadian Pacific, SunLife Financial, IBM Canada, Brookfield Properties/bcIMC Realty, Encana, Cenovus, Petro Canada, Shell, Nordstrom's and others.<br>Educated in New York, he holds a Master of Fine Arts (Honors) 1977, from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn; a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honors) 1974 from the University of Victoria, Victoria, BC and was one of the first participants and seminar leader in the Graduate program at the Whitney Museum, New York in 1976/77. On his return to Canada he participated in the renowned workshops at Emma Lake, Saskatchewan (1979/80/81) working with John Elderfield, Friedl Dzubas, and Stanley Boxer."</span><span style='font-size:11.5pt;font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif;color:#606060'><o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:7.5pt;font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif;color:#606060;background:white'><a href="http://bryanryley.com/bio/"><span style='color:#6DC6DD'>http://bryanryley.com/bio/</span></a>, accessed June 26th, 2015.</span><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman",serif'><o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal style='line-height:15.6pt;background:white'><span style='font-size:11.5pt;font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif;color:#606060'> <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:"Century Gothic",sans-serif;color:#595959'>Laura Ashton<br><i>Marketing and Programming Coordinator</i><o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><b><i><span style='font-size:4.0pt;font-family:"Century Gothic",sans-serif;color:gray'><o:p> </o:p></span></i></b></p><p class=MsoNormal><b><span style='font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;color:#BBCE02'><img border=0 width=202 height=70 id="Picture_x0020_1" src="cid:image001.jpg@01D0B0C9.1D2D7DA0" alt=VPAGlogo></span></b><b><i><span style='font-size:4.0pt;font-family:"Century Gothic",sans-serif;color:gray'><o:p></o:p></span></i></b></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:8.0pt;font-family:"Century Gothic",sans-serif;color:#595959'>3228-31st Avenue</span><span style='font-size:8.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman",serif;color:#595959'>, </span><span style='font-size:8.0pt;font-family:"Century Gothic",sans-serif;color:#595959'>Vernon BC V1T 2H3 <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:8.0pt;font-family:"Century Gothic",sans-serif;color:#595959'>vernonpublicartgallery.com (250) 545-3173<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:8.0pt;font-family:"Century Gothic",sans-serif;color:#595959'>Follow us on <a href="http://twitter.com/vernonagallery"><span style='color:blue'>Twitter</span></a> & <a href="https://www.facebook.com/pages/Vernon-Public-Art-Gallery/92358973285"><span style='color:blue'>Facebook</span></a><o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><b><span style='font-size:14.0pt;font-family:"Century Gothic",sans-serif;color:#595959'><o:p> </o:p></span></b></p><p class=MsoNormal><b><span style='font-size:14.0pt;font-family:"Century Gothic",sans-serif;color:#595959'><a href="http://www.vernonpublicartgallery.com/midsummers-eve-of-the-arts/"><span style='color:blue'>Purchase Midsummer's Eve of the Arts Tickets Online!</span></a><o:p></o:p></span></b></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:8.0pt;font-family:"Century Gothic",sans-serif;color:#595959'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><b><span style='font-size:8.0pt;font-family:"Century Gothic",sans-serif;color:#595959'>Current Exhibitions:<o:p></o:p></span></b></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:8.5pt;font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;color:#606060;background:white'><a href="http://www.vernonpublicartgallery.com/project/shelf-life/" target="_blank"><span style='color:#6DC6DD'>UBCO BFA Graduate Exhibition: Shelf Life</span></a>, May 28 - July 23, 2015<br><a href="http://www.vernonpublicartgallery.com/project/heavens-above/" target="_blank"><span style='color:#6DC6DD'>Andrea MJ Toth: Heavens Above</span></a>, </span>May 28 - July 23, 2015<span style='font-size:11.5pt;font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif;color:#606060'><br></span><span style='font-size:8.5pt;font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;color:#606060;background:white'><a href="http://www.vernonpublicartgallery.com/project/mackie-house-artist-in-residency/" target="_blank"><span style='color:#6DC6DD'>Jan Poynter: The Longview,</span></a> May 28 - June 26, 2015</span><o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p></div></body></html>
