</font><span style="color:rgb(54,54,54)"><font face="arial,helvetica,sans-serif">Using the textbook <i>Preserving Archives and Manuscripts </i>by Mary
Lynn Ritzenthaler (2010) students will be introduced to archival preservation
in seven modules over the 10 week length of the course. Topics will include
concepts and terminology in archival preservation; basic material science of
paper records and photographs; basic material science of machine readable
records and electronic media; concepts for understanding design requirements
for archives buildings and storage environments; the exhibition of archival
records; emergency planning; and preservation management planning.</font></span><font color="#000000" face="arial,helvetica,sans-serif">
</font></div><div><font color="#000000" face="arial,helvetica,sans-serif"></font><br></div><div><font color="#000000" face="arial,helvetica,sans-serif">
</font>The textbook will be supplemented with articles, survey tools and condition reporting assessments available on the Internet. A self-study guide will lead the students through each module where they will complete questions and practical projects that are submitted to the Instructor for evaluation.<font color="#000000" face="arial,helvetica,sans-serif">
