Being a tailors and it having a hollow core possibly it was wound with thread and placed on a peg of a sewing machine? I’ve worked with some sewing machines that would have used something similar, though much smaller, but this may be a ‘professional’ thread bobbin.<br><br> There may be a better term than bobbin, I feel like I’m saying it a lot. I’ve attached an image of a sewing machine from our educational collection.
