<html><head></head><body style="word-wrap: break-word; -webkit-nbsp-mode: space; -webkit-line-break: after-white-space; ">Hello All,<div><br></div><div>As many of you know, HAMM (the HMCS Alberni Museum and Memorial) was evicted from the Comox Centre Mall in addition to at least 9 other businesses and non profit effective this Friday at 5:00 pm. Their reason to most of us was that we do not fit their idea of a 21st Century Mall. Many of us replied with something that ended "and the horse you rode in on" but we moved out quickly and gracefully. HAMM was moved in 7 hours (10 am - almost 5:pm) due to very organized volunteers at the museum, the movers and at the other end when the things arrived. (See our facebook page for photos of the move)</div><div><br></div><div>It was very stressful trying to find a new location large enough for the museum but small enough for our rental/lease budget. We were finding the perfect size, but rents were close to $4.500-5000. One place we really wanted was a heritage church, but the asking price was $!,100,000. I was starting to look for circus tents on Craigslist.</div><div><br></div><div>Finally, as our deadline approached, a couple of local residents came in to see our WAR BRIDES exhibit of Bev Tosh's work and were impressed with the rest of the museum. They had heard that we were evicted and suggested their small mall in downtown Courtenay across the river from Comox. They came back the next day with an incredible offer which we couldn't refuse, though it still is a major gap in what we actually can pay in that area of our budget and what they were able to discount to us to save the museum. Any tips out there to raise money on an ongoing basis when you can't get Gaming Grants or the towns/cities to support you? We have been turned down twice from the City of Courtenay and we are literally across the street from City Hall. Oh well, we will find the funds somewhere. </div><div><br></div><div>Until then I will be personally paying the difference until we can gain some serious financial assistance from other civic organizations and new building gifts to help with the tremendous amount of restoration work needed to be finished October 31.</div><div><br></div><div>Have no fear, we have survived moves and shuffles, slow times and flooding. We will come back better and stronger and totally reinvented from our exhibits before.</div><div><br></div><div>Our new address and contact information is listed below with my name and number. Since Telus in our corporate sponsor, they will be re-installing the phone/fax/internet so that Prices alarms can come in and set up their system. We will not know the new phone number yet. Then we can slowly move the museum out of storage (the new landlords have given us an empty store across the hall from our new home for storage).</div><div><br></div><div>Since many of our items we had on display were on loan, many of these items may not be returning so we will have a wish list of items posted here on this list server for certain or similar items we would like to acquire for our new display system we had put into place for WAR BRIDES and will be recycled into our new space. Perhaps you might have something taking up storage space that can be used more publicly. </div><div><br></div><div>It is also our intention to add a small section for a KIDS ZONE (naval, maritime in theme).
