This funding is from a series of referendum over the past 40 years, most recently in 2009 when 83% of the public voted to increase their property taxes. Subsequent to this last referendum, the CRD has officially designated us a service, thus we are able to get increases without having to go to referendum. In our 2015\16 fiscal year of Nov- Oct we received $166,674 in cash. We also receive a tax exemption for our property from the District of Sooke and they also provide us with $20,808 to operate the visitor centre out of the museum.
