<DIV>Cowichan Lake Area – 7000</DIV>
<DIV>We are open 11 months of the year. We take a break from mid-December
until mid-January. The latter </DIV>
<DIV>half of January is a time for volunteers to do some repairs, accessioning,
display renewals, etc. We reopen the first</DIV>
<DIV>Monday of February. </DIV>
<DIV>We are open from 10 am – 4 pm</DIV>
<DIV>We are run by the Kaatza Historical Society, a non-profit Society.</DIV>
<DIV>We usually have a full time curator but we are in the middle of
restructuring so that may change. Employed by the Society.</DIV>
<DIV>We are funded by a function grant of $30,000 per year by the Regional
District. Town of Lake Cowichan, Area I, North side of the lake and Area F,
South side of the lake. A cheque is received in the mail. </DIV>
<DIV>Our budget is approx. $40,000 per year. The additional funds
are comprised of donations and gift shop sales. We also apply for a gaming grant
from time for materials and supplies as well as extra staff time for special
projects.</DIV>
<DIV>The Town of Lake Cowichan owns the three buildings and does any major
capital projects and looks after the grounds.</DIV>
<DIV>Our volunteers do minor repairs to the outside of the buildings and all
maintenance in the interior of the buildings. </DIV>
<DIV>We have a five year lease with the Town of Lake Cowichan.</DIV>
<DIV>We host a Community Picnic during Heritage Days, a vintage movie night once
a year, an appreciation lunch for all of those</DIV>
<DIV>who contribute significantly to the museum and an annual Christmas Potluck
supper for our members and volunteers. </DIV>
<DIV>Hope this helps. Pat Foster.</DIV>
