<div dir="ltr">Dear Colleagues,<div><br></div><div>This message is for members of the Archives Association of B.C. as well as any memory/heritage institution in the province of B.C.</div><div><br></div><div>I hope that most of you are aware of MemoryBC, the consortial archival description database used by institutional members of the AABC: <a href="http://memorybc.ca">http://memorybc.ca</a> . The software that underlies MemoryBC, AtoM, can be used to display both archival descriptions and accompanying digital objects, but up to this point the AABC has only supported its use for archival descriptions.*</div><div><br></div><div>We (the AABC) are interested in gauging the community's interest in using MemoryBC to display digital objects alongside archival descriptions. Because there would be additional costs associated with hosting digital objects, institutions who wish to take advantage of this service would pay a fee on a yearly basis. The financial model is still being investigated but we anticipate the fees being in the range of $120-$160 per year for 5 GB of digital storage. Access to add descriptions and digital objects to MemoryBC will continue to be available only to Full and Associate Institutional members of the AABC (for membership info and rates, please see: <a href="http://aabc.ca/membership/">http://aabc.ca/membership/</a>)</div><div><br></div><div>We hope that this initiative will be of interest to institutions that do not have their own mechanism for displaying digital objects on their own institutions' websites/databases, as well as institutions who wish to increase the exposure of their online content.</div><div><br></div><div>To gather your feedback, we ask that you fill out this survey (it would be helpful if you could ensure that your institution only fills out the survey once):</div><div><br></div><div><a href="https://goo.gl/forms/DHDC0cM0TzrCgnxQ2">https://goo.gl/forms/DHDC0cM0TzrCgnxQ2</a><br></div><div><br></div><div>Responses will be gathered until March 15th. A summary and report will be available for members at the AABC AGM at the end of April and will be distributed to these lists.</div><div><br></div><div>Thank you for your interest!</div><div><br></div><div>Cheers,</div><div><br></div><div>Sarah Romkey</div><div>AABC Treasurer</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>* If you'd like to see an example of a similar site which does already display digital objects, please see the Archives Association of Ontario's Archeion: <a href="https://www.archeion.ca/">https://www.archeion.ca/</a> </div><div><br></div><div><br clear="all"><div><div class="gmail_signature"><div dir="ltr"><div><div dir="ltr"><div><div dir="ltr"><div><div style="font-family:"trebuchet ms",sans-serif;color:rgb(53,28,117)"><font size="2"><font style="font-family:tahoma,sans-serif" size="2"><span style="color:rgb(0,0,0)">Sarah Romkey, MAS,MLIS</span></font><br></font></div><font size="2">Archivematica Program Manager</font><font style="color:rgb(102,102,102);font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif" size="2"><br><a href="http://artefactual.com" target="_blank">Artefactual Systems</a><br>604-527-2056<br></font></div><font size="2"><a href="http://www.twitter.com/archivematica" target="_blank">@archivematica</a> / <a href="http://www.twitter.com/accesstomemory" target="_blank">@accesstomemory</a></font><br></div><div dir="ltr"><div><font style="color:rgb(102,102,102);font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif" size="2"><br></font><br></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div>
