A second level was added in 1976 to accommodate an archives, more display area, and programming. Over the years, the name changed from Kelowna Centennial Museum to Okanagan Heritage Museum.<br>

On June 10, 2017, during Canada’s Sesqui-centennial celebration, dignitaries and friends gather to celebrate the 50th birthday of the facility. During those 50 years, the community has changed dramatically. Within the walls, the facility is being re-imagined.<br>

Artist, Heather Cline, has been collecting stories from people across Canada, including Kelowna, to incorporate into her latest exhibition – Quiet Stories from Canadian Places. <br>
<br>
Last fall, the artist interviewed Kelowna residents, who shared personal memories of their home and community. Cline was inspired to paint some of the locations, connecting with the subject matter through other people’s reminiscences and experiences of place. <br>
<br>
The exhibition features rich paintings and captivating personal stories from around the country, which create a dynamic narrative space filled with images and soundscapes. <br>
<br>
Quiet Stories from Canadian Places runs from June 2, 2017 to September 4, 2017 at the Okanagan Heritage Museum.</p>

Heather Cline is a painter and mixed media artist living and working in Regina, Saskatchewan. Since completing her MFA at the University of Saskatchewan in 2001, Cline has been exploring narratives around place and personal history. She is fascinated by how personal history intersects with human geography; currently, this involves merging collage soundscapes with lush intricate paintings of everyday places. <br>

This pair of dancing shoes was donated by Audrey Basham, who was a young student of the Mary Pratten School of Dance. Audrey grew up in Kelowna in the 1940s. Her family operated Shelley's Pet Store.<br>
<br>
Mary Pratten opened a dance studio in Kelowna in 1937, and taught lessons up until 1960, when she was in her late 80s. She charged between 25¢ and 50¢ a lesson. Some of her students went on to join professional dance companies, including the Royal Winnipeg Ballet.</span></div>
