<div dir="ltr">Hi Tammy,<div><br></div><div>Yes, old appliance cords do contain asbestos. We found several in the collection at the NVMA when I was working there on the deaccessioning project. Things like heaters, irons, curling irons, electric stoves, etc, and when the old cord started to fray you could see the asbestos exposed.</div><div><br></div><div>With limited time/resources, our solution was to wrap and seal the cords (or the entire object) for safety. If the artifact isn't essential to the collection I would consider deaccessioning it and doing a proper safe disposal, but you could also just have the cord removed and keep the main object.
