to explore the shifting relationship between humans and nature in the 21<sup>st</sup> century in
</span></em><em><span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:black">Curious</span></em><em><span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:black;font-style:normal">, a new exhibition by artist Jane Kidd, that opens at the Kelowna Art Gallery.

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif";color:black">The labor-intensive process of hand woven tapestry has been Kidd’s primary medium throughout her long career, and has provided an
effective means to develop content through the use of imagery and process her ideas. Her works are technically demanding and thought-provoking.</span><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif""><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif";color:black"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif";color:black">The works on exhibition from her
<i>Curiosities</i> and <i>Wonderland </i>series draw attention to pertinent contemporary issues, such as genetically modified and engineered organisms and the human manipulation of the environment. One example of this is a pair of scrolls visitors will encounter
that present aerial views of planted crops, along with alpha-numeric codes for GMO seeds.

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif";color:black"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif";color:black">Kidd takes on the role of a pseudoscientific collector with her
<i>Curiosities </i>series, creating contemporary curiosities that pair human, animal, plant, or mechanical images</span><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"">.<span style="color:black"> The artist views these works as scientific
artifice, engineered aberrations of the natural order. The resulting images disturb, but also offer seductive possibilities. Using allegorical symbols to create narrative references, Kidd reveals the complicated and often-contradictory manner with which we
perceive and apply scientific developments, and asks: “Will what we create solve our problems, or create new ones?
