<div>The Jewish Museum and Archives of BC is pleased to join Grandview Woodland Food Connection in inviting Vancouverites of all backgrounds to the Britannia Sukkot Festival, to be held at Britannia Community Centre on Tuesday, October 10, 2017.</div>
<div><font face="Calibri"> </font></div>
<div>The Jewish Holiday of Sukkot celebrates the fall harvest and commemorates the exodus from Egypt. To celebrate, Jews gather in a “sukkah”, or temporary shelter, to dine with family and friends each evening for a week. </div>
<div><font face="Calibri"> </font></div>
<div>The themes that underlie Sukkot – connection to nature, community, gratitude for the bounty of the land, environmentalism – continue to be universally relevant. In an effort to revitalize this tradition, the Jewish Museum and Archives of BC and Grandview
Woodland Food Connection collaborated this spring to host the inaugural Vancouver Sukkah Design Competition. The winning design, <i>Eyepiece</i>, by local architecture firm <font face="Founders Grotesk Text Light CE">FSOÃRK</font> will make its debut at the
Britannia Sukkot Festival.</div>

<div>An Indigenous Welcome will be provided by Senaqwila Wyss, and Sukkot blessings will be provided by Rabbi Hannah Dresner of Congregation Or Shalom. A feast of Syrian food will be provided by Tayybeh: A Celebration of Syrian Cuisine. </div>
<div>The Britannia Sukkot Festival is open to everyone and all are encouraged to attend. Tickets are by donation and are available at: jewishmuseum.ca/sukkot.</div>

<div>The JMABC is dedicated to the preservation and sharing of the 150 year history of Jewish life in BC. The Britannia Sukkot Festival is the culmination of a year of food programming celebrating the diversity of Jewish cuisine represented among our community.
This programming has included The Chosen Food Supper Club, a series of 8 dinners held at the JMABC, and The Kitchen Stories podcast. Information about both programs are available on the JMABC website: jewishmuseum.ca </div>

<div>When we talk about food, we often end up talking about so much more. Family traditions, patterns of migration, gender dynamics, our relationship to the land. More than just a source of nourishment, food is a means of communication.</div>
