Another option is to use an replaceable anti-graffiti film over the plastic to provide some protection, but this is expensive. The glass is probably the most cost effective solution.

Todd Davidson

President

BC Farm Museum Association,

Box 279, 9131 King St., Fort Langley, BC, Canada, V1M 2R6

604-888-2273 www.bcfma.com bcfm@telus.net

From: Moderated BCMA subscriber listserv. I want to put a couple of chainsaws out there, as well as saw blades and other objects from some of the local sawmills. However, as this is right at the main entrance to the Museum’s property, I also want to keep that nice welcoming openness of the shed – so I was thinking Plexiglas display cases without wooden or metal frames – just a support along the bottom – to protect the objects without adding any more solid structure to the space than absolutely necessary. The cases will be along the sides of the shed, between the support posts, so under the roof but still within range of blowing rain and snow.

I’m pretty sure sealed Plexi will keep most of the bugs out, but what about condensation? I’ve also been told that water doesn’t just roll off Plexiglas. And is there a way to build these cases so they are sealed but still let us change or add objects occasionally without having to destroy things?

Thoughts?
