<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif;color:#1F497D">Outdoor display is always tricky because of lack of environmental controls. One thing you do not want to do it put something in a glass/plexi box and in the sun.
it will get really really hot during the day and cold at night. These rapid fluctuations is what is going to cause your damage. The boxes might also try humidity and create microenvironments that could be harmful to the objects.
<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif;color:#1F497D">For the most part big industrial type objects, like a fire hose cart, will be fine outside as long as they are undercover and not in direct sunlight. It should
be stored on a concrete pad that does not pool water, you can also bolt it to the concrete to prevent people from trying to move it.
<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif;color:#1F497D">Yes the temperature difference from winter to summer is huge, but it happens relatively slowly and the cart will be able to adjust. Wood and metal should be fine
if they are kept dry. But any rubber pieces will be damaged. So you will have to assess what level of damage is acceptable.
<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif;color:#1F497D">If you are going to move it outside I would suggest moving it in spring or late summer when the outside temperature is similar to indoors. This might buffer the
initial shock of environmental change. Ideally it would slowly be introduced, but logistically not always feasible.

from some of the local sawmills. However, as this is right at the main entrance to the Museum’s property, I also want to keep that nice welcoming openness of the shed – so I was thinking Plexiglas display cases without wooden or metal frames – just a support
along the bottom – to protect the objects without adding any more solid structure to the space than absolutely necessary. The cases will be along the sides of the shed, between the support posts, so under the roof but still within range of blowing rain and
snow.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
