<p class="Default"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">Nanaimo – This summer the Nanaimo Museum resurrects history through cemetery tours. With links to the museum’s 2018 feature exhibits on Extension mining community and Japanese Canadian redress, the tour includes
people from all walks of life. The tour takes place in the Public Cemetery on Bowen Road.

<p class="Default"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">The museum’s current feature exhibit,
<i>A Call for Justice: Fighting for Japanese Canadian Redress (1977-1988)</i>, provided opportunities to research the experiences of Japanese Canadians during World War II. “Seeing the markers of young Japanese Canadian children inspired us to investigate further
into their family histories,” says Steph Kveton, Program Coordinator at the Nanaimo Museum. “One of the markers is engraved in Japanese script.”

<p class="Default"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">Some of the other stories on the tour made newspaper headlines over 100 years. The suspected murder of Louis Stark in 1895 rocked communities across the province. “He was a farmer in Extension who grew up as
a slave in Kentucky,” says Aimee Greenaway, Curator at the Nanaimo Museum. “Rumours ran rampant in the community for generations about who had motive and opportunity to murder Louis Stark”

<p class="Default"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">The tours take place on Thursday, July 5 and August 2 and start at 10am. The cost is $15 per person and advance registration is required. The Nanaimo Museum is open daily 10am-5pm until Labour Day weekend. For
