name given to the wood cabin that was a former residence of
Vancouver artists Al Neil and Carole Itter. It is believed to
have been the last remaining squatter cabin along the Burrard
Inlet foreshore. Built circa 1927 in Coal Harbour, the cabin was
moved to the western boundary of Cates Park in 1932 and remained
there until 2015, when it was removed from the site due to
imminent redevelopment of the adjacent property – now Cates
Landing – by Polygon Homes.</span></font> <br>

style="font-size: 9pt;">In 2014, grunt gallery began working in
partnership with Other Sights for Artists’ Projects and Creative
Cultural Collaborations to develop the concept for a relevant
and innovative reuse of the Blue Cabin. Given the need for
extended-stay artist residencies in Vancouver, and the cabin’s
history on the foreshore, repurposing it as an off-the-grid
floating artist residency on the Lower Mainland waterfront
emerged as the chosen course of action: the cabin would function
as a dedicated studio for visiting artists alongside a small
house where they would live. Both structures would be sited on a
floating platform.</span></font><br>

recently undergone a full remediation by Jeremy and Sus Borsos,
and the project is moving closer to its launch as an artist
residency and heritage engagement site. </span></font><br>
