FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Nanaimo Museum

Nanaimo Museum Board of Directors announces new General Manager

Nanaimo – The Nanaimo and District Museum Society Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of new General Manager, Sophia Maher.

The appointment follows the retirement of Debbie Trueman who has managed the museum since 1989.

Sophia has moved with her family back to Nanaimo from Edmonton where she served as the Managing Director of Visitor Experiences at Fort Edmonton Park, one of Canada’s largest living history museums; and most recently held the position of
Director of Guest Service and Security at Rogers Place. In her new role Sophia will report to the Board of Directors and will oversee all aspects of the operation of the museum including financial management, exhibit and program planning, marketing, retail
operations, revenue generation to be invested in public programming, and museum development.

Sophia is proud of the museum and committed to growing into the future based on the strong work that has been put in place by Debbie and the team. “The Nanaimo Museum is well respected for its collections practices, its diverse and engaging
programming, its talented and passionate team members, and its involvement in the museum community both provincially and nationally. I share the Board’s vision of excellence and sustainability and am excited to leverage the museum’s current momentum to continue
to engage the citizens of Nanaimo and to introduce the museum to new audiences both local and those visiting the City from elsewhere. The stories Nanaimo has to share and the voices from the past are rich, strong, impactful, and exciting. I am thrilled to
return to the city I love and to lead the museum into the next chapter of Nanaimo’s story. I invite people to come down and say hi, I look forward to meeting them.”

The Board of Directors would like to thank outgoing General Manager Debbie Trueman for her many years of leadership.

The Nanaimo Museum is located in the Vancouver Island Conference Centre and is open to the public Monday – Saturday from 10-5 for the Fall and Winter months. Admission is $2 for adults, $1.75 for seniors, and $0.75 for children. For more
