<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">The public is invited to join Gallery Curator Stacey Koosel as she speaks about the recently opened
<i>Daphne Odjig 100</i> exhibition. The talk will be followed by a screening of the documentary
<i>The Life and Works of Daphne Odjig</i> (2008). This event is free and open to the public to attend.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">Attendees will learn more about Daphne Odjig, about her artistic journey, and hear from Koosel about how the exhibition
<i>Daphne Odjig 100 </i>came together. Afterwards, a screening of the 47-minute documentary
<i>The Life and Works of Daphne Odjig </i>by First Voice Media will be shown. The documentary tells the story of Daphne Odjig’s life and artistic practice in her own words, with supporting narratives by her colleagues, friends, and family.

<p class="MsoNormal"><i><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">Daphne Odjig 100
</span></i><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">is a capsule retrospective of the late artist that opened the week of what would have been her 100th birthday. Odjig is one of Canada’s most celebrated Indigenous painters and printmakers
and has often been referred to as “the grandmother of Canadian Indigenous Art”. Her influence altered the course of art history in Canada and has helped to pave the way for new generations of Indigenous artists.

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">Daphne Odjig</span></b><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"> (1919 - 2016) established the first Indigenous-run fine art print house in
Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1971. Odjig was also a founding member of the Indian Group of Seven. This artistic group's purpose was to promote Contemporary Indigenous art and artists. She has been the recipient of many awards, honours, and recognitions for her works,
including: The Order of Canada, the Governor General's Award, and eight Honorary Doctorates. Her works have been shown in the National Gallery of Canada, The McMichael Canadian Art Collection, the Canadian Museum of Civilization, and the Art Gallery of Ontario.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">Stacey Koosel</span></b><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"> is Curator at the Kelowna Art Gallery. Before moving to Kelowna, she worked
as a freelance art curator, art critic, publications editor, and university lecturer. In 2015, Koosel obtained her PhD in Art and Design from the Estonian Academy of Arts.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
