We are excited to announce that we are accepting applications from First Nations and community organizations to deliver <em><span style="color:#c00000"><a href="http://www.fpcc.ca/language/Programs/Silent-Speaker.aspx" target="_blank"><span style="color:#c00000">Reclaiming My Language: A Course for Silent Speakers</span></a></span></em>. <br>
<br>
FPCC provides communities with assistance and course materials in addition to funding of up to $25,000 per course. <br>
<br>
Deadline for applications is June 1, 2020. <br>
<br>
Reclaiming my Language: A Course for Silent Speakers is for people who understand but do not speak their language. It is based on a successful program that was originally developed by and for Indigenous Sami peoples, and customized for Indigenous communities in B.C. <br>
<br>
The course uses Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and supports silent speakers with tools and coaching - you can reclaim your language!<br>
<br>
<strong>
Course Information </strong><br>
<br>
The course takes place over 10 weeks for 2-3 hours each week. It includes: <br>
<ul>
<li><span>
10 silent speaker participants, each paired with a fluent mentor</span></li>
<li><span>
Supportive environment to practice speaking the language</span></li>
<li><span>
Individual skill development in CBT</span></li>
<li><span>
Weekly homework assignments</span></li>
<li><span>
Optional internship opportunities to contribute to a community language program</span></li>
<li><span>
Funding to cover the costs of, and support in, planning and delivering the course</span></li>
</ul>
The course must be completed between Sept 1, 2020 and March 31, 2021. <br>

<strong>Eligibility</strong><br>
<ul>
<li>
There are 25 courses available with a priority placed on communities who have not previously offered this course.</li>
<li>
First Nations Communities, Governments, Bands, Tribal Councils or Indigenous organizations and education/cultural centres in B.C. are eligible to apply.</li>
<li>
If you are a silent speaker interested in taking this course, please encourage your First Nation or community organization to apply.</li>
</ul>
