DNA barcodes: New tools for plant identification
with Erin Manton
DNA barcoding is a technique that uses sequences of short, standardized gene regions to identify species. University of BC graduate student Erin Manton is conducting research that involves developing and testing the utility of a DNA barcode reference library for the vascular plant flora of southern British Columbia. This will be a useful tool for taxonomic and ecological researchers in the province, and may help to uncover and define species in our flora.
Presentations are held at 7 p.m. in the Cedar Room at VanDusen Botanical Garden at 37th and Oak in Vancouver. Admission is free for NPSBC members, a $2 donation is suggested for non-members. If you have any questions, just email npsbcmembership at gmail.com
