Harvey Janszen died on Monday after a biking accident. Last week, Jenifer
Penny was with Harvey botanizing on the Gulf Islands. He has done good work
in botanizing on Gulf Islands, Texada Island etc. I corresponded with him
about three weeks ago about the update of his floristic surveys.

Harvey started floristic surveys of the Gulf Islands in 1974 and amassed a
lot of good material. When Pam Janszen started to explore fungi (and later
slime moulds), Harvey expanded his interests to mushrooms.

In Harvey Janszen, we lost a good botanist and a good friend.

Rest In Peace!

P.S.

On March 16, 2021, Harvey wrote me:

"In 1973, Chris Brayshaw gave me a plant press and said, bring in anything
you find when I came in with a Plagiobothrys tenellus that I couldn't
identify using JK Henry. Bob Ogilvie later gave me a small honorarium for a
few years to collect, and he also gave me a job organizing IC Shank, RD Bird
and TR Ashlee's collections from Saltspring Island. You may remember
reviewing a notebook of comments on Saanich flora records I had made around
1980."
