"iDance, do you?"
The latest version of this information and related support information may be found at http://vecds.bc.ca/island.dance/
1. getting the word out on dance!
2. for _you_ to post dance info (a dance, a dance experience, offer or request for car pooling, etc.
3. a networking list for any and all Folk or Country dance, on the southern islands of British Columbia. It supports & is supported by http://vecds.bc.ca/island.dance/
Using simple e-mail as a medium, the Island Dance List ("iDance") allows for discussion, coordination, announcements and initial contact for those interested in participating in or developing and offering community dancing on BC's southern islands (members thus far on Cortes, Hornby, Gabriola, Mayne, and Vancouver Island . . . Lower Mainland (of BC) and Oregon as well.)
Much is On-Topic. i.e. dance events, availability of or need for callers, teachers, or musicians, word of them touring, etc. Queries for halls available, suggestions for best-practises, all good.
List members may be dancers, callers, musicians, organisers/presenters, clubs, venues and more.
To continue a discussion ON or VIA the list (please do!) use your REPLY LIST (or REPLY ALL) button.
See the web site pages describing iDance for some awareness of why a discussion ON the list is more useful than one OFF-list.
If a message doesn't interest you please do not ask other folks to continue their discussion off-list if it is on-topic.
Instead, if you really really must tell someone, please tell me.
If it's off topic, please tell me. :)
Use REPLY and your message will only go to the "poster", the originator/sender of the message you are replying to.
Probably best to REPLY LIST (or REPLY ALL), unless you _only_ wish to write to that one person!
Forwarding - in/out
Out: As a matter of course if a message on the list is an announcement feel free to give it wide distribution (i.e. forward it to friends, other lists, your blog, newsletter, etc.). If a message or part of it is a comment in a discussion then in the main do _not_ forward it Off-List without the author's permission
In: Likewise, if you are in receipt of a private communication, do NOT forward it TO the list without permission of all participants you are quoting (this also means including their addresses - possibly take out some/all)
Are you aware of a useful announcement that list members may be interested in? Forward that to the list
Subscription to the list requires moderator approval.
Posts are not moderated, it would be nice for everyone to act politely. Differing perspectives are welcome, rudeness is not.
Attachments are strongly discouraged, however are allowed. Please put your document somewhere on the web and send us only a link to that file. i.e. don't mail photos, instead send an address of a site where they may be viewed (i.e. Flickr, Dropbox, your webspace)
Those desiring space to
host/post the file (image, registration form, etc.) please ask the iDance webmaster (several days notice would be kind, it's a volunteer gig)
Plain text is favoured. Fancy text or other formatting may not been seen by everyone properly
This list is not associated with any organisation, club or society. Any and all country or folk dance people and dance groups are welcome to make their announcements on it. Suggestions about the list or web site operation are welcome.
Messages sent via the list are not archived.
While this list and it's mail are not open to the public or external search engines, e-mail unfortunately cannot be considered secure or private. Please consider e-mail to be an electronic postcard. Some web-mail-only providers tell one quite directly that they harvest data from your e-mails, and that of anyone you communicate with.
The Victoria Freenet Association (aka Victoria Telecommunity Network) provides the resources for the computer this list runs on. Please consider supporting them with a membership/e-mail account or the business of hosting your web site there. http://victoria.tc.ca/

At the foot of this page enter the address you wish to unsubscribe. The button will lead one to the next page, there push the Unsubscribe button. Await the automatic confirmatory e-mail at that e-mail account. Reply to it, or use the included web link and push another button. Done.
If you'll simply be away for a few weeks, log-in (as above) and select for your list subscription to switch to NOMAIL. Don't forget to reset that on return!
[In spite of the line of text immediately below this, there are NO list archives, so nothing saved and nothing to view! JDE]
