A reminder that the submission deadline for Conference 2005's "Call
for Proposals" is this Monday, December 13, 2004.
The theme for Conference 2005, October 19-22, 2005 in Kelowna, BC
is "Creating a Cultural Restaurant".
Dona Moore, Executive Director of the Kelowna Art Gallery & Wayne
Wilson, Executive Director of the Kelowna Museum are "serving" as
Conference 2005 Committee co-chairs.
You can download the Guidelines and Proposal Form in Word or PDF
format from BCMA's website at:
http://www.museumsassn.bc.ca/conf_main.asp
(If this link to the Conference homepage does not work for you, please
copy and paste this URL into your browser/search field).
The 2005 Program Committee, chaired by Nick Tuele, has already met
and we are encouraging emailed proposals, if possible, for easy
distribution to Program Committee members.
The Program Committee has identified a number of suggested
sessions and subject areas from Conference 2004 participant surveys
and the Special Interest Group (Collection Managers) session to
inspire 2005 proposals:
- Cultural tourism
- Education programming for museums and galleries
- Developing/updating policy and procedures for small museums
- Built structure conservation
- City/Museum development (museums as a City "menu" of services)
- Senior level "thinking pieces"
- Marketing, publication design
- (More) Gift shop
- Exhibit design, lighting, multimedia
- Marketing digital content
- Grant writing, RFQ's, RFP's
- Art galleries: offsite storage
- Insurance coverage and costs
- Management of digital images and copyright issues
- Historic sites collections versus museum collections
- Industrial museums
- Volunteer-run small museums
- Community-based exhibitions as outreach
- Cross-border issues
- Hidden dangers in collections
- Firearms: deactivated = destruction of artefacts?
- Curatorial subjects
We are also looking for Pre-Conference Workshop topics and
encourage Special Interest Group sessions and affinity activities.
Proposals are not limited to these suggestions. However if you
recognize yours, we invite you to complete and submit a proposal. We
also invite members and museums and galleries from the Okanagan
and Kootenays to contribute sessions particularly characteristic of the
region.
Questions? Please email them to:
