WELLS, BC, April 29, 2007… Island Mountain Arts was pleased to accept
the Cariboo Chilcotin Coast Tourism Association, Caribooster Award for
the /ArtsWells Festival of All Things Art/ at the regional tourism
conference held in Wells, April 11 &12, 2007.
The Caribooster Award is given annually to the individual or
organization that promotes the health and well being of the entire
region. “IMA through such work as the /ArtsWells Festival of All Things
Art/, has put Wells on the international stage, drawing instructors and
performers from across the country and the seas,” says Erin Shaw of the
CCCTA.
The ArtsWells Festival, which will celebrate its fourth incarnation this
August Long Weekend (August 3 – 6, 2007) in Wells, BC, promises to be
another Cariboo highlight this summer. The festival will feature over
forty independent musical acts from across the country, but
predominantly from BC, as well as numerous workshops, an Art Walk around
the town, the One Minute Play Festival and a variety of other performers
including jugglers and stilt walkers.
Taking place at venues throughout Wells including an outdoor stage at
the Wells School, the Historic Wells Community Hall, the Island Mountain
Arts Public Gallery, the newly re-opened Sunset Theatre, as well as
Barkerville Historic Town and various local studios, galleries and
businesses, the festival aims to celebrate the arts in all their many
forms and highlight Wells for the creative community that it is.
Some of the performers you can expect to see on the ArtsWells stage this
year include: 2007 Juno award winner, Leela Gilday; Canadian Folk Music
Award winner for best emerging songwriter, T. Nile; hit of the Vancouver
Folk Festival, instrumental hip hop duo, No Luck Club; the imaginative
sounds of Toronto’s Hunter Eves; perennial favourite, alt country
crooner, Rae Spoon; rockabilly toe tappers, the Joey Only Outlaw Band
and many more to come.
ArtsWells is seeking more volunteers to help make this summer’s festival
better than ever. Those that can volunteer twelve hours or more can get
into the festival for free, plus get some meals at the ArtsWells kitchen
and a place to camp for free.
