EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY: REGISTRAR OF COLLECTIONS
The Red Deer Museum and Art Gallery owns a collection of over 100,000
artefacts. Our collection is a social history collection, for the most
part. The largest single component is our collection of clothing and
textiles, and we also have a significant art collection. We present
approximately 20 temporary exhibitions each year – some of which are
touring exhibitions, and some of which are organized in–house.
We have an opening for a Registrar of Collections. Reporting to the
Coordinator of Collections, this individual will assist with the MAG’s
implementation of the Strategic Plan for Collections. The position is
responsible for the compilation of clear and accurate records of the
collection, including all areas of collection and records management.
Scope of responsibilities will include maintaining accessions records
and numbering all items, cataloguing and maintaining classification,
category and cross-reference cards, recording and preparing contractual
arrangements for all gifts, loans and bequests, arranging insurance for
works on loan and planning and supervising the movement of all items in
the collection or those borrowed from other institutions.
Qualifications:
1. BA in History, Art History or related field, Master of Museum
Studies preferred;
2. Excellent computer knowledge and skills, especially with databases
and museum registration software.
3. Knowledge and experience with museum collection database programs
such as TMS Light.
4. Knowledge of social history and art history of Central Alberta;
5. A minimum of 3 years museum registration experience;
6. Good organizational, communication and supervisory skills.
7. Excellent written and oral communication skills
8. A creative, happy, team player attitude.
