The Richmond Museum seeks a creative, energetic, positive and organized 
individual to work as Museum Assistant. Under the supervision of the 
Curator, the Museum Assistant would be responsible for providing general 
museum collection management support.

 

This is a temporary, part-time contract position, to work Saturdays 
beginning in early September until December 29, 2007. One day of paid 
training, during the regular workweek, prior to official start date will 
be required. This position is ideally suited to a student currently 
enrolled in Museum Studies.

 

Duties include:

-          Undertaking general collection management activities, such as 
accessioning and condition reporting.

-          Data entry in the museum collection database.

-          Assisting in improving museum collection storage.

-          Updating museum collection records to ensure consistency and 
accuracy.

-          Assisting with digital photography of collection.

-          Assisting Curatorial staff with other collection projects as 
required.

 

Qualifications:

-           Completed or working towards an undergraduate degree in 
history, archaeology, anthropology or museum studies (3^rd or 4^th year 
students preferred).

-          Previous work or volunteer experience with museum collections.

-          Experience in the care and handling of museum artifacts.

-          Basic artifact preventative conservation skills.

-          Intermediate to advanced experience with Microsoft Access.

-          Intermediate skills in photography an asset.

-          Superior organizational skills.

-          Excellent verbal and written skills.

-          Ability to take instruction and work independently.

 

Work Schedule:

-          Saturdays for up to 18 weeks beginning early September 2007

-          8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

 

Remuneration: $16.00/hour
