The Gulf of Georgia Cannery Society, which operates the Gulf of Georgia
Cannery National Historic Site under contract to Parks Canada, is seeking a
Public Programs and Special Events Assistant.

Reporting to the Public Programs Manager, the successful candidate will
facilitate all aspects of the development and delivery of public program
activities at the Cannery including exhibit openings, festival events and
exhibit enrichment activities. There will be some handling of reasonably
heavy objects and audio-visual equipment.

The position requires excellent communication and organizational skills,
experience working with the public and the ability to work effectively both
independently and in a team environment. Tourism, museums or event planning
experience is an asset. This is a full time, 6-month, contract position,
starting February 04, 2008.

PUBLIC PROGRAMS AND EVENT ASSISTANT:
Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site
Nature and scope of position
Logistical planning and preparation for special events including but not
limited to
·     Exhibit and seasonal opening May 3, 2008
·     Canada Day
·     Salmon Stomp music and family dance event, August 2, 2008
·     Monthly evening music concerts
·     Exhibit enrichment activities

Duties include
Ø     Working with the Public Programs Manager
·     Develop special event schedules and work-plans
·     Maintain contact information records of event participants
·     Book activity presenters and musicians
·     Ensure required equipment is in place including audio equipment,
staging and seating
·     Help decorate the Cannery for special events
·     Attend special events to help ensure their success
·     Track budget expenditures and prepare event report material
·     Research additional activities for monthly evening openings if
required
·     Coordinate presenters for lectures if required
·     Work with the Head Interpreter to support birthday party program
·     Work with the Head Interpreter to coordinate volunteer scheduling for
special events
·     Support volunteer teams for event catering
·     Other duties as required

Ø     Working with the Marketing Manager
·     Ensuring timely distribution of promotional material to local venues
·     Coordinate printing and mailing of event invitations
