This is a reminder that the closing date for the Executive Director =20

North Pacific Historic Fishing Village
BACKGROUND
The North Pacific Historic Fishing Village (NPHFV) is located on =20
Inverness Passage within the district of Port Edward, approximately =20
15 kilometers southeast of the City of Prince Rupert, British =20
Columbia. This cannery was established in 1889 by the North Pacific =20
Canning Company and in 1891 it was sold to the Anglo-British Columbia =20=
Packing Company, who operated it until 1980. In 1984, the site was =20
threatened with demolition but in 1987 the North Coast Maritime =20
Museum Society, (now the Port Edward Historical Society), convinced =20
B.C. Packers to transfer the site to the Municipality of Port Edward =20
and the responsibility for the management of the site was then handed =20=
over to the society under a lease agreement.
In 1987, NPHFV was designated National Historic Site by Parks Canada =20
and is only one of ten sites of national historic significance in =20
British Columbia and 50 sites in Canada. NPHFV commemorates the West =20=
Coast fishery, and more specifically, the salmon canning industry in =20
the development of the B.C. economy and the experience of the =20
different cultures in that industry.
Currently, NPHFV hosts tens of thousands of visitors every year and =20
is an important institution for the identity and culture of the North =20=
Coast and Skeena area and acts as an important attraction for =20
tourists to the region. The site consists of 29 buildings, 600 =20
meters of boardwalk, and a unique working dock that is 100 by 50 =20
meters. NPHFV is open to the public from May until September =20
providing guided tours, live performances, a restaurant, gift shop, =20
and over-night accommodation.
SUMMARY OF JOB PURPOSE:
The position of Executive Director has been reinstated, and is =20
intended to provide primary leadership in carrying out NPHFV=92s =20
mandate and functions of:
preserving and rehabilitating the site, its archive and artifacts;
managing programs that will effectively communicate the historic =20
significance of the site;
growing the awareness and recognition of the site that will =20
contribute to the development of a the tourism economy in the Skeena =20
region of British Columbia.
KEY DUTIES
The Executive Director will:
Lead an initiative focused on the preservation, restoration and =20
rehabilitation of this National Heritage Site.
Oversee the completion of the cataloguing and inventorying of the =20
Cannery archive and artifact collections.
Support the development of new content and programs to create a world-=20=
class visitor experience.
Be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the NPCM =20
and supervising museum staff and volunteers.
Liaise with the board of directors in their role of governance.
Ensure orderly and effective succession of staff and directors.
Liaise with stakeholders, benefactors, funders, media and public =20
regarding the initiatives of the North Pacific Cannery Site.

EDUCATION
Bachelor=92s degree or equivalent in related fields; business =20
administration and or public administration preferred. Specialized =20
courses with relevance to public sector and / or community / not =96 =20
for - profit organizations an asset.
REQUISITE EXPERIENCE
Experience sitting on and / or reporting to a Board of Directors in a =20=
leadership role;
Operations and financial management experience in a not for profit =20
setting;
Experience in the museum community or culture industry or similar =20
community organizations;
Exposure to the fishing industry is an asset.
Compensation will be competitive and based on experience and ability.
