Join the Cultural Resource Management Program at the Alliance for
British Columbia National Historic Sites of Canada Conference at the
Burnaby Village Museum on February 28, 2007 for the following one-day
workshop:

BUSINESS STRATEGIES FOR HERITAGE ORGANIZATIONS

Heritage organizations, as ‘social enterprises,’ have the capacity to
develop innovative and sustainable revenue-generating strategies while
also protecting and celebrating the unique heritage values of their
structures, landscapes, collections and mission. This workshop provides
a framework in which you can conceptualize a range of heritage business
opportunities that have the potential to generate essential revenues and
strengthen the services that you provide within your community. You will
develop your ability to:

□ Appreciate the fit of heritage organizations within the ‘social economy’
□ Define the ways in which mission and heritage values both support and
constrain business development
□ Identify types and key characteristics of social enterprises
□ Identify business strategies that build on your organizational context
and heritage resources
□ Assess the viability of business strategies in the context of
organizational culture and readiness, available resources, and market
demand
□ Approach the preparation of a business plan
□ Identify financing and partnership strategies

*Facilitators:* Irene Gannitsos, the manager of Social Enterprise with
the Vancity Community Foundation, and Kevin Brown, a heritage consultant
who worked with Haig Brown House to develop a range of innovative
heritage business strategies.
*Cost:* $120 per person, includes learning materials and lunch.
