WESLEY WENHARDT APPOINTED EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, VANCOUVER MARITIME MUSEUM

Hector Williams, PhD, president of the board of trustees of the Vancouver
Maritime Museum announced the appointment of Wesley A Wenhardt as executive
director, effective May 15. Wesley's background includes nine years as vice
president, business development and operations at The Tech Museum of
Innovation in Silicon Valley, California, and seven years association with
the Canadian Museum of Civilization, both renowned learning centres and
visitor attractions. "We are pleased and fortunate to have Wesley Wenhardt
in this leadership role," said Dr Williams, "his experience will prove
invaluable to our Museum." 

Mr Wenhardt is responsible for all aspects of Maritime Museum operations;
fundraising, programming, and collections and is an ex officio member of the
Museum's board of trustees. He will build on the Museum's strength to draw
local, national and international visitors from educational, maritime and
tourism audiences.

Wenhardt has travelled the globe and worked in science centres, museums,
tourism and cultural attractions in the United States, South Africa,
Scotland, Canada, and Brunei. He has restored and operated historic
projects; launched IMAX theatres, films and science centres; worked for Expo
86 and raised money for worthy causes. According to Wenhardt, "the Maritime
Museum is well positioned to inspire people of all ages to discover, explore
and research our maritime heritage, collections and library. I look forward
to working together with the other institutions in Vanier Park; H R
MacMillan Space Centre, Vancouver Museum and the City Archives to draw
people to the Museum."

The Museum's former executive director, Dr James Delgado said, "The diverse
experience Wes brings to the Maritime Museum makes him an ideal leader at a
time when the community's cultural attractions are in a state of transition.
Wes and his team will forge a new vision for the Museum's future. I

The Vancouver Maritime Museum tells the stories of Canada's ties to the
Pacific with an emphasis on Canada's gateway port communities in the greater
