CURATORIAL/COMMUNITY SERVICES ASSISTANT 3
HISTORIC STEWART FARM

The Historic Stewart Farm is a designated heritage site operated by the 
Heritage Services Section of the Surrey Parks, Recreation and Culture 
Department. The facility with 8 heritage buildings, a garden and orchard 
in a beautiful park setting provides visitors with a unique opportunity 
to connect with Surrey’s agricultural history, focusing on the time 
period of 1890 to 1910.

Reporting to the Curator, Exhibits and Programs, the Curatorial 
Assistant will assist and support the care and documentation of 
collections, conducting inventories and research, prepare and maintain 
permanent and temporary exhibits at the Historic Stewart Farm site. This 
position involves, monitoring collections environments, preparation of 
monthly reports, assists to install, maintain and dismantle seasonal 
displays, conducts inventories and cleans artifacts and maintains a log 
of events related to exhibits and collections. The Curatorial Assistant 
will assist with coaching junior staff and volunteers, providing 
feedback and perform other job related duties as required.

The successful candidate will have completed grade 12 and possess good 
verbal, written and computer skills; excellent interpersonal skills with 
a practical approach to operations that involves being flexible and 
observant. An interest in history, museums, and historic sites is 
required and previous knowledge of artifact collections, care and 
handling, cleaning methods and safety techniques is considered an asset. 
This position will require considerable attention to detail, procedures 
and record keeping. Some lifting is involved as well as working both 
indoors and outdoors.

The position involves a non-traditional workweek including working 
Saturdays, and approximately one 4-5 hour shift every other week from 
February to mid-December.
