In their own voice, the people of Kwantlen First Nation share their traditions and history in the exciting new exhibition created in collaboration with the Langley Centennial Museum.
"The River is Us: The Many Stories of Kwantlen" focuses on the Kwantlen people as Stó:lo People - river people - who maintain many close connections with the Fraser River and the rich resources it sustains.
The exhibition begins with the presentation of some of the many spiritual and social bonds between Kwantlen people and the resources given to them by the Creator in their traditional territory.
Among the many stories presented are the Kwantlen's role in the growth and development of Fort Langley, the challenges encountered in their relationships with newcomer governments and institutions, and the strengths of the Kwantlen First Nation being shown in the modern rebound and reclamation of their traditions.
"The River is Us" exhibition is on view until 21 October at the Langley Centennial Museum, 9135 King Street in Fort Langley. The Museum is open daily: Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. and Sunday from 1:00 to 4:45 p.m. Admission is free of charge. Donations are accepted.
The Langley Centennial Museum is a department of the Township of Langley that aims to connect people with their cultural heritage.
